Have Modern People Lost the Ability to Listen to Their Gut?

Are you listening to your gut feeling? What's it been trying to communicate lately?

In our data-driven world, we’ve been trained to give outside powers a say in our wellbeing. Our intuition reminds us that we hold the power of our life, steering it towards what’s right for us.

There is no such thing as a purely rational decision. The brain uses a combination of logic and emotion when making decisions of any kind. It is not just some fuzzy feeling making you anxious or happy – it's facts, coming from reality, straight into your body.

So we started wondering – why don’t we give our gut feeling a bigger role in our personal and professional life?

Maybe it’s simply because we’ve been told it’s a women’s thing. A transient intuition that’s hard to use against the bulletproof facts and numbers that all men swear by.

Also, men don’t even seem to have the same info-collecting-radar. Think about it. You and your guy sit in a bar. You absorb the room. You can feel the tension from the couple sitting across from you. You hear the man's mindless hum. The woman’s desperate attempt to start a conversation about what she should order. And when you leave the restaurant your experience of the evening is 6% less good because their mood sneaked into your body.

While the mind of your BF goes something like this:

“Good song.”

“Weird hat.”

End of story.

It’s as though we register more things in our surroundings and therefore have a stronger gut feeling and intuition.

However, it can also mislead you if you don’t pay attention to it. The problem is, in this day and age of constant distraction, it seems that many of us have lost connection with our true emotions. It may be due to the fact that we don’t allocate time to just sit down and reflect.

"What just happened in that meeting?"

"How did that dinner make me feel?"

"What did my friend say about her weekend brunch plans?"

Instead, we run to the next meeting. Or plug in a podcast to stimulate our minds with even more information.

To sum it up – let’s make more room for reflection in our everyday lives to hear what our guts are telling us. Meditation in all its glory, but sometimes some good old thinking is just enough.

Hack: Give yourself three minutes of reflections after every meeting you’ve got planned today. And why not add some CBD oil to one of these reflections to balance yourself.
